Hawker School Community Library was a buzz of anticipation as children and adults gathered on Wednesday May 24 to listen to Mr Brendon Bevan read the story, The Speedy Sloth, written by Rebecca Young and illustrated by Heath McKenzie.

Our location was one of 22,542 locations across Australia taking part this year and our group of over 60 were some of the more than 2,357,960 participants who listened to the story.

As the story was about a sloth who wanted to compete in a running race, the SRC organised a casual clothes day with a sporting theme.

After the story, the whole school went out onto the oval, where we played the game, Capture the Flag. The older students did a brilliant job of teaching and including the younger students and a fun time was had by all.
